Hi, I’m Alicia. I’m a writer who loves researching and curating.
I maintain a comprehensive Index of Books by Black Women, as well as a growing archive of literary trends, emerging voices, and cultural shifts that are shaping the reading world.
I am an independent (non-academic) researcher. I love to read, curate, and share about Black women’s literature.
My work tracks new releases, rising authors, funding opportunities for Black women writers, industry patterns, and the cultural conversations happening around our stories.
My goal with this website is to celebrate and uplift us. To encourage us to keep writing, publishing, and shining!
Random facts about me:
✨I worked as a Registered Nurse for many years before becoming a writer.
✨In addition to nursing and writing, I have worn many other hats, career-wise, including working for one of the largest funding bodies in the world, managing large grants and assessing grant applications.
✨I had a nomadic childhood. By the age of 10, I’d already lived in four countries. I grew up mostly in the US. I currently live in the UK.
✨I am of Caribbean heritage (Jamaican and Saint Lucian).
✨I became a ‘nomad’ for part of my adulthood, roaming the globe intermittently for just over 10 years. I may do the nomad thing again at some point.
✨I love hiking in the woods, exploring forests, and being surrounded by hills, natural waterways, and trees. I’m a nature nerd.
✨My 2 happy spaces are nature and the library.
