About me (and why I created this index)
Growing up, I read books whilst walking to school, to the playground, everywhere. You couldn’t catch me without a book in hand. I couldn’t put books down. I still can’t.
Sometimes I think I’m obsessed.
I suppose if you’re going to pick an obsession, reading books is a great choice. And the books that had the most impact on my childhood and young adulthood were books by Black women.
Of course, they weren’t (and aren’t) the only books I read, but Black women writers influenced my ideas, ideals, and identity as a teen and young woman in a way no other books could.
Now, at 47, I owe a lot to Black women authors.
This index is one of the ways I declare my gratitude and help build awareness and exposure for Black women authors.
